BP Oil Spill Top Hat Caps Well Video

In the above video you can see BP oil spill top hat caps well. They placed the LMRP containment cap successfully on the top of the leaking oil pipe which was cut off by giant shears earlier today. The dome now will funnel some of the oil to a containment ship on the surface. BP is hoping that hydrates will not form in the pipe which brings the oil to the surface. They are pumping methanol to the dome to prevent the pipe from getting blocked. The spill has been capped... but the oil is still gushing like mad.

this did not work ...
this did not work in 1979 and will not work now, You don't remember that and it seems? these big oil companies don't either. So far , BP has done everything that was tired in 19179 that did not work and they contiune to go down the list. The only thing that is going to stop the oil is another well drilled on each side and the oil pump with each rig to relieve the pressure and then and only them can the leak be capped

Why can't a massive ...
Why can't a massive concrete weight be lowered down that would effectively seal the pipe. It would be designed in a special way to prevent leaks and allow for siphoning. It's not necessarily sophisticated but should work, would be quick to implement, and allow recovery(which is the real reason BP isn't doing anything drastic to solve the problem). Oh, nevermind, I forgot... Obama still needs the leak to get cap and tax through...?

you are classic example of the "engineering ignorant"... I've read your posts and you are in a sense trying to exonerate and mitigate the fact that BP are SERIOUSLY accountable for what happened. Why? Cost cutting. This is what happens when greedy bean counters get involved in things that they know nothing about. It promotes the operation of rough and bodgy equipment. Internal people at BP have been saying this? for years that if they don't change their ways, something bad was going to happen. The space shuttle blew up because they didn't take all precautions at the time (there was ice on the shuttle, but they were rushed to get it into space, so they didn't worry about it) I agree that no one is perfect and everyone makes mistakes, but when your decision affects others, you need to really slow down and look at the big picture.
